Supporting IFRC’s Disaster Response Emergency Fund
Embracing proactivity: How IFRC-DREF shapes our charitable giving strategy for natural disasters
In response to the increasing severity and frequency of natural disasters, we have adopted a proactive approach to our charitable giving response. We shifted our giving strategy in 2021 to provide annual support to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies' (IFRC) Disaster Response Emergency Fund (DREF). This strategic shift not only streamlines our response but also offers a more sustainable way to provide disaster relief assistance and aligns with the evolving landscape of emergency relief.

The IFRC-DREF, established in 1979, serves as a flexible and immediate response fund managed by the IFRC. Originally designed to respond to small- and medium-sized disasters, the fund has evolved to include support for anticipatory action. Acting before a disaster allows the IFRC-DREF to respond even more effectively to different crises — saving more lives, minimizing impact, and protecting livelihoods. By providing funding directly to the National Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the IFRC-DREF ensures that swift and localized assistance reaches communities in need.
Our partnership with IFRC highlights our commitment to making a meaningful and lasting impact on communities affected by natural disasters worldwide.
We are pleased to support the IFRC-DREF and admire its proactive model, which uses resources to help anticipate and mitigate the impact of future disasters. This model aligns with our commitment to proactive relief efforts for natural disasters.
