Overview

Lulama Selele is a Local Partner in Firm's EMEA Energy, Infrastructure, Project and Asset Finance practice. She has 13 years of post-qualification experience, with experience working on strategic projects across the African region and other emerging markets in various sectors including, energy, infrastructure, healthcare and pharmaceuticals and financial services.

Lulama also significant experience working with national and international development finance institutions.  She spent 18 months on a secondment to the International Finance Corporation (a member of the World Bank Group), which is the largest global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector in developing countries.

Healthcare and Pharmaceuticals

  • Representation of International Finance Corporation in relation an investment in Avacare Global, a private company incorporated under the laws of the United Republic of Mauritius (the "Avacare"), to support Avacare's expansion of high quality, affordable healthcare products and services across Africa.
  • Representation of the International Finance Corporation (IFC), French Development Agency subsidiary Proparco, DEG, the German Development Finance Institution, and the U.S. International Development Finance Corporation (DFC) on an aggregate of €600 million in loans to be advanced to Aspen Finance Proprietary Limited, a member of the global pharmaceutical group, Aspen Pharmacare.
  • Representation of International Finance Corporation in relation to International Finance Corporation's investment in Avenue Group Kenya Limited (Avenue) through a US$12,700,000 loan to support Avenue's growth plans in tertiary care and radiology amongst other capex, and help expand its existing network of clinics.
  • Representation of International Finance Corporation in relation to the financing of Biologicals and Vaccines Institute of Southern Africa (Pty) Ltd's (BioVac) through a ZAR120,000,000 loan to support BioVac's general corporate and working capital requirements.

  • Representation of International Finance Corporation and other lenders (including  African Development Bank, Bangkok Bank, British International Investment, Citibank, Deutsche Investitions- und Entwicklungsgesellschaft (DEG), DZ Bank, Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund (EAIF), Rand Merchant Bank, Nederlandse Financierings-Maatschappij voor Ontwikkelingslanden (FMO), Export-Import Bank of India (India Exim Bank), Export-Import Bank of Korea (KEXIM), the Standard Bank Group, Standard Chartered Bank, and the United States International Development Finance Corporation (DFC)) in a US$1.25 billion financing package to Indorama Eleme Fertilizer and Chemicals Limited in Nigeria to ramp up its fertilizer production and develop a port terminal for exports, supporting food production and food security across regional and international markets, while fostering job creation in Nigeria.
  • Representation of Emerging Africa Infrastructure Fund and African Development Bank in the financing of a 40,000 m3/day bulk water production facility in Rwanda.
  • Representation of International Finance Corporation US$30 million subscription in subordinated notes issued by Bora Africa ("Bora"), a wholly owned subsidiary of Grit Real Estate Income Group Limited, a public company headquartered in Mauritius for investing in warehousing, prime logistics, light industrial, manufacturing, storage facilities, data centres and digital infrastructure real estate assets in Sub Saharan Africa.
  • Representation of International Finance Corporation in its investment to Kandil Steel S.A.E, a leading downstream flat steel supplier in Egypt.
  • Representation of International Finance Corporation in its investment to Societe Industrielle Agro-Alimentaire, a leading beverage company in Senegal in order to help SIAGRO grow operations in West Africa.
  • Representation of Barclays Africa Group Limited in respect of a senior term facility with the Export Credit Insurance Corporation of South Africa cover for a project finance transaction in Lesotho for the development of a diamond mine.
  • Representation of Sefateng Chrome Mine Proprietary Limited on a ZAR600 million in respect of its chrome mine.

Energy

  • Representation of African Development Bank and Agence Française de Développement in relation to a loan package to Hidroeléctrica de Cahora Bassa in Mozambique (the largest Independent Power Producer in Southern Africa) to support its Vital Capex program aimed at modernizing the company's electricity production system.
  • Representation of The Standard Bank of South Africa Limited in the financing of a fuel storage terminal in South Africa.
  • Representation of Africa Finance Corporation and the Pan African Infrastructure Development Fund, on the establishment of an infrastructure fund managed by Harith General Partners with assets capable of generating 1,575 megawatts of electricity in several African countries.
  • Representation of an LC bank in relation to the World Bank PRG documents in a project involving the development, construction and operation of a new heavy fuel oil fired electric power plant with a contracted capacity of 56MW in Sierra Leone.
  • Representation of a European energy utility in respect of a due diligence process in respect of an 80MW wind farm and two 140MW wind farms being developed for participation in South Africa's Renewable Energy Independent Power Producer Programme.
  • Representation of a group of Lenders in the financing of the 32.7MW Wesley wind project.
