Joe has a detailed knowledge of the EU's General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the UK Data Protection Act 2018, and regularly advises clients on all aspects of privacy and data protection law compliance.

Joe is experienced in providing advice on e-privacy and direct marketing issues, international data transfer solutions, artificial intelligence and targeted advertising.

Experience

Ongoing advice to Meta (and its core businesses, including Facebook) regarding all pre-litigation and litigation matters in relation to social network activities outside the US, as well as ongoing advice regarding public policy changes impacting data protection in the EU and UK.

Advised Nestlé on data protection compliance matters globally, including in relation to the GDPR.

Advised a social mobility educational technology start-up on data protection compliance matters.

Advised numerous businesses on the privacy and data protection implications of their services.

Advised independent modern media company Vox Media on data protection due diligence and negotiation of appropriate data protection contractual provisions in relation to its agreement to acquire Group Nine, a leading collection of multi-platform media brands including The Dodo, NowThis, PopSugar, Thrillist and Seeker. The merger creates one of the biggest media companies in the US.

Advised Golden Nugget Online Gaming, Inc. (NASDAQ: GNOG) on data protection due diligence and negotiation of appropriate data protection contractual provisions in relation to its sale to DraftKings Inc. (NASDAQ: DKNG) in an all-stock transaction that had an implied equity value of approximately US$1.56 billion.

Advised SoftBank Vision Fund II on data protection due diligence and negotiation of appropriate data protection contractual provisions in relation to its investment as lead investor in:

  • the £220 million fundraising by Zopa Group Limited;
  • the Series D financing of e-commerce platform Trendyol;
  • the US$130 million Series B financing of Envelop Risk; and
  • the Series C financing of Peak AI.
