Overview
Jason Zakia is a partner in the Firm's Commercial Litigation practice. An experienced trial lawyer, Jason has represented clients in state courts, federal courts, and before arbitration panels across the country. Jason's practice focuses on high stakes, complex business disputes for corporations and their shareholders, officers, and directors.
Experience
Securities Fraud and Fiduciary Litigation
Jason represented Relationserve Media, Inc. and over a dozen of its current and former officers and directors in a purported securities fraud class action before both the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Jason represented Forward Industries and several of its officers and directors in a purported securities fraud class action before the United States District Court for the District of Florida. Jason served as lead trial counsel for a multi-billion-dollar foreign food manufacturer in litigation brought in Florida state court against a former corporate officer.
Restructuring Litigation
Jason represented several Indiana Pension funds in opposing the sale of Chrysler LLC in restructuring proceedings in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Southern District of New York. Jason was a member of a trial team that prepared for and tried this case of profound national and international interest within a few weeks of having been retained. Jason served as lead litigation counsel for the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of ChemRx Corporation in restructuring proceedings before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Jason served as lead trial counsel for the Official Committee of Unsecured Creditors of International Aluminum Corporation in restructuring proceedings before the United States Bankruptcy Court for the District of Delaware. Jason represented Deloitte LLP in connection with the bankruptcy of Fontainebleau Las Vegas and related litigation.
Accounting Malpractice Litigation
Jason represented Deloitte & Touche LLP in a multi-billion-dollar accounting malpractice case following Taylor Bean & Whitaker's failure. Jason represented a Big 4 accounting firm in significant litigation arising out of the federal government's takeover of Freddie Mac. Jason represented MBAF, one of the nation's top 40 accounting and advisory firms, in a series of cases related to US Century Bank.
Intellectual Property Litigation
Jason represented WCI Communities LLC, a luxury residential community builder and manager, in its trademark infringement suit against a real estate developer before the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida Jason represented a major building supply manufacturer in a patent infringement case brought against a competitor in the United States District Court for the District of Delaware. Jason represented Pfizer in a patent infringement action brought against a generic drug manufacturer in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida. Jason represented Amweld International LLC in a patent infringement case brought against a competitor in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Florida.
International Arbitration
Jason represented an international telecommunications company in an arbitration initiated by a Caribbean television distributor before the International Centre for Dispute Resolution (ICDR) of the American Arbitration Association.
