Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Intellectual Property Practice and Global Technology Industry Group with the addition of Mark Davies as a partner in Washington, DC.

"We are thrilled to welcome Mark, whose arrival is integral to the Firm's strategic priority to strengthen our reputation as a ‘go-to' firm for IP litigation in the global technology sector," said Yar Chaikovsky, Head of White & Case's Intellectual Property Practice. "Mark's work is at the forefront of legal issues in the IP technology space, involving novel issues related to artificial intelligence, standard-setting, and patent damages. His track record as a highly successful appellate lawyer will bolster the Firm's existing platform in the technology sector and our global IP footprint."

Davies's practice focuses on appellate litigation matters for the world's most innovative technology companies. As an appellate lawyer, Mark has argued and briefed more than 50 cases, both in private practice and for the government. He has handled appeals for leading American technology companies as well as Asia-Pacific and European companies. His cases have involved almost every area of patent law, as well as copyright, trade secret and trademark law, and he has handled appeals from the International Trade Commission, district courts, and Patent Trial and Appeal Board. He is experienced in the Federal Circuit, the DC Circuit, other federal and state appellate courts, and the US Supreme Court. Davies also served as a member of the Appellate Staff of the Civil Division at the US Department of Justice from 1999 to 2006, where he represented the US Patent and Trademark Office, the Copyright Office, the International Trade Commission and other federal agencies before the Federal Circuit, other US Courts of Appeals and the US Supreme Court.

"Mark's impressive background and experience working with major tech companies on their most complex intellectual property work will add to White & Case's reputation for offering leading IP litigation capabilities to high-tech firms," said Aalok Sharma, Co-Head of White & Case's Global Technology Industry Group. "His arrival supports the continued expansion of our Intellectual Property Practice and Technology Industry Group, as part of our Firmwide strategy to strengthen our US practice capabilities, particularly in these sectors."

Davies is recognized as a leading lawyer in the United States by Chambers, where he is ranked for Appellate Law and Nationwide Intellectual Property: Appellate, and he was named as a BTI Client Service All-Star MVP in 2023 based on independent client feedback.

Davies is the latest addition to White & Case's growing Intellectual Property Practice. Last year, the team added Yar Chaikovsky, Global Head of the Intellectual Property Practice, with a team of lawyers in the Firm's Silicon Valley office, including as Phil Ou, Bruce Yen, and David Okano, and Jordan Coyle, a leading ITC practitioner, in the Firm's Washington, DC office. His addition follows the high-profile arrivals of partners John Cahill, Keith Hallam, Rachel Rodman, Ladan Stewart, David Lim and Taurie Zeitzer, now Co-Head of the Firm's Global Private Equity Industry Group, across the US so far in 2024.
