Biography
Overview
Shafinas is an associate in the Firm’s Energy, Infrastructure and Project Finance practice based in Melbourne. Shafinas has practiced in Australia and the USA and focuses on M&A, joint ventures, private equity transactions and general corporate advisory across a range of industries, including infrastructure, renewable energy and the mining and metals sector.
Prior to becoming a lawyer, Shafinas worked as a seafarer onboard merchant shipping vessels and as a tanker broker based in Singapore.
Experience
Representative transactions include:
International Resources Holding on its US$1.1 billion investment in the Mopani copper mine in the Republic of Zambia.
Future Global Resources on its US$55 million acquisition of a gold mine in Ghana from Golden Star Resources.
A sovereign state on a comprehensive rewrite of its mining law and regulation and associated fiscal regime.
An Uzbek mining and metallurgical company on its corporate restructuring and privatization.
Brookfield Infrastructure on the AU$1.2 billion sale of the Port of Geelong, the leading bulk port in Victoria, Australia.
First Sentier Investors on its acquisition of John Laing's Australian wind farm renewable portfolio, valued at AU$646 million.
China Steel Corporation and Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners (through its Copenhagen Infrastructure IV fund), on the development and US$1.6 billion project financing of the 298MW Zhong Neng offshore wind project located off the coast of Changhua County, Taiwan.
Mount Logan Capital in the acquisition of Ovation Partners' alternative income platform at an enterprise valuation of US$8 million.*
