Overview
Samuel P. Hershey is a litigation partner in the Firm's New York office.
A bankruptcy litigator, Sam has had a leading role in some of the largest and most complex restructurings in recent history, including as debtor's counsel in In re The Hertz Corporation, In re Boy Scouts of America, In re Swissport Fuelling Ltd and In re Serviços de Petroleo Constellation S.A. Sam also has substantial experience representing a diverse array of creditor constituencies, including official committees, agents, trustees and ad hoc groups.
Sam maintains an active pro bono practice. He has vacated the convictions of two individuals who served a combined 45 years in prison for crimes they did not commit, and now represents both clients in related civil suits, achieving a record $10.5 million settlement in one case. Sam serves as chairman of Ideas Beyond Borders, a non-profit organization that makes and distributes free, Arabic-language translations of books, articles and videos on topics such as women's rights, scientific knowledge and democratic values. Sam has also worked in and out of court to end the practice of female genital mutilation.
Sam has litigated in courts across the country, and is admitted to practice in New York.
