Biography

Overview

Richard Eglin is a Senior Trade Policy Advisor in the London and Geneva offices of White & Case LLP. He advises clients on the WTO Agreements, including negotiation, implementation and compliance issues, as well as trade facilitation, trade and finance issues, regional agreements, investment issues, trade policy reviews and protectionism.

Prior to joining the Firm, Mr. Eglin served for over 20 years as a Director in the WTO Secretariat. He was responsible most recently for the finalization of the Trade Facilitation negotiations and for setting up the WTO's trade policy monitoring mechanism for WTO Members and the G20. He has overseen the production of over 100 Trade Policy Reviews and the WTO's work programme on regionalism. He has had many years of experience on macroeconomic and finance issues, including exchange rates, balance-of-payments restrictions and trade financing arrangements. He was the first Director of the WTO's Trade and Environment work programme in the early-1990s, and he subsequently managed the preparatory phase of negotiations on a WTO investment agreement.

Mr Eglin spent eight years working at the International Monetary Fund before joining the GATT/WTO Secretariat in 1985.
