Biography
Overview
Rebeca García has focused her practice mainly on the financial sector. She is active in capital markets, as well as in corporate, financial regulatory, financing, banking and transactional work, mergers and acquisitions, and general corporate matters.
Rebeca advises clients seeking guidance on a variety of Mexican banking and regulatory issues. She has led complex filings aimed to obtain governmental authorizations on matters before the Mexican Banking and Securities Commission, the Central Bank, the Ministry of Finance and Public Credit and stock exchanges, among others. In particular, Rebeca has developed a strong practice in obtaining regulatory authorizations for the incorporation of financial entities and for financial transactions involving regulated entities likewise. She also specializes in corporate governance compliance and advises clients in meeting their obligations with Mexican regulators and financial authorities. Drawing on her understanding of the senior management's business vision, she possesses strong foundations to advise Boards and executive management by evaluating business situations and determine appropriate corporate governance structures, policies, strategy and action plans.
Rebeca also has extensive experience in advising local and international financial groups, banks, broker-dealers, issuers and underwriters in securities offerings in the Mexican Stock Exchanges, as well as lenders and borrowers in debt and equity local and cross-border financings. Additionally, Rebeca has represented purchasers, sellers and investors in shares and asset acquisitions and has been involved in numerous complex mergers, spin offs and joint ventures.
More recently, Rebeca has been working with the New York Capital Markets team on SPAC IPOs and SPAC business combinations.
Rebeca joined White & Case in May 2010. She was admitted to practice law in Mexico as a lawyer later that year, when graduating from ITAM law school. After obtaining an LLM degree from the Sorbonne Law School, in Paris in 2014, she joined the Legal Advisory Department of the Conseil d'État (The French Council of State) and afterwards resumed her position as an associate in the White & Case Mexico City office in September 2014. From September 2016 to October 2017, she was assigned to the Firm's New York office, as a foreign associate in the Energy, Infrastructure, Project and Asset Finance group. Rebeca is currently based in the White & Case Mexico City office.
In addition to being a lawyer, Rebeca is a public accountant and financial strategist. Prior to joining White & Case, Rebeca worked at a prestigious international tax firm (Big Four firm), where she provided tax advice to clients in cross-border and domestic transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, corporate restructurings, and complex tax matters in general.
