He specializes on civil and corporate law as well as subsoil use legislation with a focus on the oil and gas and mining sectors. He has broad experience for over 45 years on corporate and M&A, legislative reforms and capital markets matters.

Since 2013 Marat had been at the forefront of the subsoil use legislation improvement being a part of the working groups under the auspices of Ministry of Investments and Development and Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and KazEnergy Association. Work included amendments to the Subsoil Use Law and drafting New Subsoil Use Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Representation of Nostrum Oil & Gas plc, an independent oil & gas exploration and production business with assets in Kazakhstan, on its successful admission to the premium-listing segment of the Official List and to trading on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange.
Representation of a Chinese company in the acquisition of a Kazakhstan limited liability partnership that owns oil and gas subsurface use rights in Kazakhstan.
Representation of Tengizchevroil LLP in a US$1.1 billion limited recourse bond issue and in a US$3.3 billion pari passu partner loan financing for the expansion of the Tengizchevroil oil project in Kazakhstan with ABN AMRO Bank and Lehman Brothers as Lead Managers.
