Juan María López Cortina
Biography
Overview
Juan María is an experienced antitrust and corporate lawyer with over five years of expertise advising clients on complex antitrust matters across Mexico and Latin America.
His practice focuses on advising clients on merger notifications to competition authorities in cross-border transactions and defending clients in antitrust investigations involving collusion, abuse of dominance, unnotified mergers, and leniency programs. He has worked on several high-profile antitrust cases in regulated sectors, including energy, financial institutions, and airports, and has successfully requested competition authority opinions in these areas.
Juan María has represented both domestic and international clients, including publicly traded and privately held companies, across a diverse range of industries such as energy, construction, technology, pharmaceuticals, banking, automotive, and metallurgy.
Before joining White & Case, Juan María earned his law degree from the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM) and an MBA from Universidad Iberoamericana.
He began his legal career as an antitrust and corporate associate at two of Mexico's leading law firms.
