Biography

Overview

Emily Elliott is a senior associate in White & Case's pre-eminent Construction & Engineering and International Arbitration Groups, with a particular focus on the avoidance and resolution of disputes on major international energy (including nuclear), oil & gas, and infrastructure projects. She has acted, including as advocate, in some of the world's largest international construction arbitrations. Emily is also an active contributor to the Firm's pro-bono activities.

Emily joined White & Case in 2014 as a trainee, gaining experience in the Firm's Financial Restructuring and Insolvency and Litigation and Arbitration Groups in London, and the Bank Finance Group in the Firm's New York office. Emily has also spent over a year and a half on secondment to the Firm's International Arbitration teams based in Dubai and Paris.

Experience

Representing a consortium of European construction companies on one of the world's largest infrastructure projects located in Central America, in a long-running series of related ICC arbitrations against the employer, worth in excess of US$2.5bn. Issues included unforeseen ground conditions, substantial and complex engineering changes to the mechanical aspects of the project, and significant delay and disruption claims.

Representing an international organization in a dispute adjudication related to a first-of-a-kind multi-billion dollar international project in the nuclear industry.

Representing an Asian-based EPC contractor in a US litigation, under Michigan law, in relation to a circa US$700 million dispute arising in connection with a major overhaul and upgrade of a hydroelectric power plant in North America.

Representing a contractor in a US$150 million ICC arbitration relating to a dispute between joint venture parties over a metro project in the Middle East.

Acting for an international oil & gas company in one of the largest arbitration proceedings in the world and numerous adjudications, relating to delay, disruption and pricing disputes in respect of the construction of an LNG processing facility.

Assisting refugees in Lesvos, Greece, as part of a multi-firm and NGO collaboration through European Lawyers in Lesvos (ELIL) and Refugee Legal Support (RLS).

Representing a government client concerning various disputes arising out the construction of new international airports and regional airports in the Middle East.

Acting in an ICC arbitration representing a state owned developer in its dispute with its contractor arising out of the construction of primary infrastructure works for the development of a new city in the Middle East.

Representing a European owner / operator in respect of a multi-billion Euro arbitration in respect of delay, disruption and change order claims relating to the design and construction of a nuclear power plant.
