Overview

Claire is a partner in our Project Development and Finance Group, based in the Abu Dhabi office, having spent time in both the London and Paris offices. She advises clients on the project development aspects of energy projects, with a particular emphasis on energy transition, renewable energy and petrochemical matters, and has worked on a wide variety of major and award-winning transactions.

Experience

Representative transactions include advising:

A national oil company in the Middle East on its various ongoing low-carbon ammonia and low-carbon hydrogen projects – from initial structuring to full-form agreements, with a particular focus on offtake and carbon capture matters.

Proman AG in a joint venture with Abu Dhabi Chemicals Derivatives Company RSC Ltd. (TA'ZIZ) to develop UAE's first world scale gas to methanol production facility at the TA'ZIZ Industrial Chemicals Zone in Ruwais, Abu Dhabi, with an anticipated annual capacity of 1.8 million tonnes per annum. TA'ZIZ is a joint venture between ADNOC and ADQ.

The sponsors, QatarEnergy and Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LLC (CPChem) as the joint sponsors, holding 70% and 30% in the project company respectively, on the US$4.4 billion financing for the development and construction of the Ras Laffan Petrochemical project, an integrated polymers complex in Ras Laffan Industrial City, Qatar. This deal has recently been recognised as "Middle East and Africa Petrochemical Deal of the Year" by Project Finance International 2023.

Saudi Aramco in connection with the US$20 billion Sadara Chemical Company Project, a joint venture with The Dow Chemical Company in Jubail, Saudi Arabia. This transaction was recognised as "Project Finance & Infrastructure Deal of the Year" and "Saudi Arabia Deal of the Year" by Islamic Finance News as well as "Middle East Petrochemical Deal of the Year" by Project Finance International.

Sweihan PV Power Company PJSC, the owner and operator of the Noor Abu Dhabi solar PV plant, in connection with the refinancing in full of the Noor Abu Dhabi project through the issuance of US$700.8 million 3.625% green senior secured green bonds. This deal was recognised as "Structured Bond Deal of the Year" by Bonds, Loans & Sukuk Middle East Awards 2023 and "Renewable Energy Refinancing Deal of The Year" by The Asset Triple A Sustainable Infrastructure Awards 2023.
