Biography
Overview
Based in White & Case's Commercial Litigation Group, Angela draws on her extensive courtroom experience to successfully lead teams in federal and state courts. She has conducted a number of evidentiary hearings before judges and jury trials throughout the country. Her key practice areas include commercial litigation, antitrust litigation, class actions, arbitrations, white collar litigation, SEC enforcement actions and environmental litigation. Angela has also conducted internal investigations on behalf of US and non-US-based companies, as well as state attorney general investigations into consumer practices.
Angela is a valued resource for both foreign and domestic clients, who seek the benefit of her extensive experience in matters before federal and state courts. Familiar with the issues particular to her clients' businesses, Angela has accumulated significant knowledge of a diverse array of sectors and takes a hands-on approach, managing all aspects of her matters.
Her extensive track record in litigation, which spans jury trials, evidentiary hearings, oral arguments and appeals, enables Angela to effectively advocate for her clients and to provide her clients with shrewd and insightful representation.
Born and raised on the South Side of Chicago, Angela is now based in the Firm's Miami Office and represents clients in courtrooms across the United States. Prior to joining White & Case, Angela was an associate clinical professor at Northwestern University School of Law, where she represented at risk youth in both juvenile and criminal court.
Experience
Recent commercial litigations
Angela defended a major cable operator in a jury trial in which the plaintiffs initially sought millions of dollars in damages, including punitive damages. Prior to trial, Angela argued and won various pretrial-motions, including summary judgment on the issue of punitive and business damages. After a week-long trial that Angela conducted alone, the jury ultimately returned a favorable verdict, finding the plaintiffs 83% responsible and Angela's client liable for less than $10,000. After trial, Angela successfully argued to the trial court that her client was entitled to its attorney's fees.
Angela was part of the trial team that secured a complete victory in a dispute between the Firm's client, an international real estate developer and another real estate developer. Following a two-week trial, the jury ruled in favor of the Firm's client and ordered the other side to pay more than $2 million to the Firm's client. This was a complete victory.
Class action litigations
Angela represented clients in state and national consumer class actions, including multi district litigation which involved antitrust and consumer protection statute claims.
Angela defended a developer against class actions related to construction defect claims and other issues arising from the real estate development process.
Antitrust litigations
Angela has represented pharmaceutical clients in complex and high profile class action antitrust litigations concerning life-cycle management strategies, now challenged as "product hopping" and "switching" strategies in federal courts.
Arbitrations
Angela has successfully defended a leading cable operator in dozens of arbitrations.
Fraud litigations
Angela has represented companies and individuals in federal criminal matters involving charges related to the bank fraud, bankruptcy fraud, mail fraud, wire fraud, Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act (FDCA) and the Lacey Act.
Internal investigations
Angela has supported domestic and foreign companies in internal corporate investigations concerning matters of state, federal and international law, and assisted clients with developing compliance plans regarding such matters.
SEC fraud investigations
Angela successfully represented a senior finance official in connection with an SEC fraud investigation into municipal bond offerings by a major East Coast city.
Import and export law compliance
Angela provided representation to companies in the seafood industry, regarding their compliance with import and export regulations and laws. She also represented the companies in federal criminal actions and investigations.
