Overview

Alex Chauvin is a funds and investment management partner in our global Private Equity practice based in London.

Alex advises both asset managers and institutional investors on all aspects of their business and operations, with a particular emphasis on structuring and executing European and US secondaries transactions in private alternative investment funds. Her experience spans a broad range of private equity-led solutions, including continuation vehicles, fund restructurings, portfolio sales, preferred equity financings and other liquidity solutions. Among the clients Alex advises on the investor side are secondary buyers, sovereign wealth funds and government pension plans based in Europe, Canada and Asia. In addition to advising investors, Alex has broad experience advising private fund managers in the formation and transaction execution of GP-led fund recapitalisations across asset classes.

Alex has been recognised as a Private Equity Rising Star 2024 by Law.com, an annual list of "the best up-and-coming talent in one of the U.K. and Continental European legal industry's most lucrative and hotly contested areas."  Additionally, Alex was recognised as a Next Gen Leader of Secondaries in 2020 by Private Equity International, an annual list of the most impressive secondaries individuals under 36.

Alex's experience includes advising on GP-led secondary transactions: 

  • Advised a Dutch private equity asset manager as lead investor on a $1 billion continuation fund involving a multi-asset recapitalization of a US private equity firm.*
  • Advised a Dutch private equity asset manager as lead investor on a single-asset continuation fund managed by a UK leading specialist healthcare investment advisor.*
  • Advised a US secondaries investor as co-lead investor, on the continuation fund managed by a UK manager involving a single-asset in the education technology sector in Germany.*
  • Advised a UK secondaries investor as co-lead investor on the $1 billion strategic recapitalization of a New York-based private equity fund.*
  • Advised a Swiss secondaries investor as the co-lead investor in a continuation fund deal involving 50 co-investments.*
  • Advised a US private equity fund as lead investor in the two single-asset continuation fund transactions involving a UK investment firm.*
  • Advised a US private investment firm on the $300 million preferred equity financing, followed by a $460 million recapitalization of its fund.*
  • Advised a US private equity firm on the structuring and formation of the $1 billion single-asset continuation fund involving the transfer of an insurance broker asset from its flagship fund.*
  • Advised a California-based private equity firm on three single-asset GP-led continuation fund transactions which involved the transfer of portfolio companies in the technology sector to newly created continuation funds. *
  • Advised a US private equity firm on the formation and structuring of its $1.5 billion single-asset continuation fund.*

Alex's experience includes advising on LP-led secondary transactions:

  • Advised a Swiss specialist impact investment firm on the acquisition of the first ESG-focused LP secondary transaction from a UK development finance institution.* 
  • Advised a French secondaries investor as co-lead investor on the €500 million continuation fund managed by a UK private equity firm of portfolio companies operating in the consumer-focused industry.*
  • Advised UK's largest defined pension scheme on its ‘mosaic' sales to secondaries buyers of a total of $2.5 billion of a portfolio of private equity fund interests.*
  • Advised a French secondaries investor as buyer of a portfolio of secondary fund interests from a Swiss family office for a transaction value of €80 million.*
  • Advised a US secondaries investor as buyer of a portfolio of secondary fund interests with a transaction value of €450 million from a Belgian corporate.*
  • Advised a UK independent foundation on its sale of a $1.1 billion portfolio of private equity and venture capital interests.*
