Overview
Alan's practice focuses on the infrastructure and energy sectors, with over 25 years of working on some of the most significant deals in these sectors.
Alan has extensive experience across the spectrum of infrastructure and energy projects, leading unsolicited proposals, competitive processes and privatisations, design and construction, operations, M&A transactions, expansions, refinancings, restructures and disputes. In particular, Alan has advised clients on every toll road project in Australia. Alan has also advised on infrastructure and energy projects across Asia, the United States and Europe.
Alan's experience allows him to anticipate, and identify solutions for, the most complex challenges.
Alan's clients include sponsors, equity investors, financiers, government agencies and contractors.
Experience
Melbourne Airport Rail
Advised IFM and Melbourne Airport in relation to their unsolicited proposal to develop the Melbourne Airport Rail Link.
Advising Melbourne Airport in relation to the subsequent Government led Melbourne Airport Rail Project.
Star of the South Offshore Wind Project
Advised Star of the South in relation to the proposed offshore wind farm in Gippsland, Victoria with a capacity of up to 2.2GW.
West Gate Tunnel
Advising Transurban in relation to the West Gate Tunnel Project, including the subsequent dispute with the construction contractors.
Sydney Metro West
Advised a bidder in relation to various contract packages for the Sydney Metro West Project.
North East Link
Advised the ViaNova Consortium in relation to its bid to the Victorian Government for the North East Link Project.
Hobart Airport
Advised QIC and the Royal Schiphol Group in relation to the acquisition of 70% of Hobart International Airport.
Melbourne Airport
Advised Melbourne Airport in relation to the Elevated Roads Project.
Philippines Regional Airports Project*
Advised Aboitiz and Vinci Airports on their bid for the development, operation and maintenance of Bacolod-Silay International Airport, Davao International Airport, Iloilo International Airport, Laguindingan Airport and New Bohol (Panglao) Airport.
Mactan Cebu International Airport*
Advised First Philippine Holdings on their bid for the development, operation and maintenance of the Mactan Cebu International Airport PPP Project.
New Footscray Hospital
Advised the lenders to the Plenary Health consortium on the new Footscray Hospital, the single largest health infrastructure investment in Victoria.
Transmission Gully Project*
Advised Wellington Gateway Partnership on their successful bid for the Transmission Gully Project (the first availability based road PPP project in New Zealand)
Australian airports*
Advised clients on the acquisition of interests in Melbourne and Launceston Airports, Perth Airport and Darwin and Alice Springs Airports.
Singapore Sportshub & ITE*
Advised UGL Limited on their successful bids for the S$1.75 billion Singapore Sportshub Project and the Institute of Technical Education in Singapore.
Connections Project / Northern Victoria Irrigation Renewal Project*
Advised Goulburn Murray Water and NVIRP in connection with the $2 billion Connections Project.
Vietnam toll road*
Advised an international investor in relation to the acquisition of a toll road concession in Vietnam.
Kenya Road Annuity Program
Advised PowerChina in relation to the 10,000 km Road Annuity Programme Lot 32 Project being undertaken by the Kenya National Highways Authority.
Social Infrastructure Projects
Advised bidders and members of bidding consortium on projects including Frankston Hospital, Victoria Schools II, ACT Courts, NZ Schools II, South Australian New Schools Project, Hopkins Prison, Victoria Schools, Eastern Goldfields Regional Prison, Ravenhall Prison Project, New Perth Stadium, Wiri Prison, QE II Medical Centre Car Park, Victorian Comprehensive Cancer Centre, Darwin Correctional Centre, Royal Children's Hospital, Newcastle Mater Hospital, Orange Bathurst Hospital, Long Bay Prison and Forensic Hospital, Royal Women's Hospital, Southern Cross Station and Victorian County Court.
