Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Tax Practice with the addition of Will Smith as a partner in London.
"There is growing demand from clients for high level international tax assistance in the context of setting-up acquisition or financing structures or implementing group reorganizations," said White & Case partner Kim Boylan, who leads the Firm's Global Tax Practice. "Will's experience in international tax matters and cross-border transactions will make him a valuable addition to our global tax practice."
Smith is a transactional and advisory tax lawyer who focuses on the direct and indirect aspects of a range of international and UK tax matters. He advises clients on the tax aspects of cross-border investments, the setting-up of acquisition or financing structures, real estate transactions, complex M&A transactions and group reorganizations, and incentive arrangements. In addition, he has significant expertise advising investment funds. Smith joins from Sidley Austin LLP, where he was a partner.
"Will is a talented tax lawyer who will be able to support clients on all aspects of corporate taxation, both from a transactional and tax advisory perspective," said White & Case partner Alexandre Ippolito, Regional Section Head, EMEA M&A/Specialists. "He will also further expand our specializations in tax, including complex M&A, infrastructure and real estate, and help grow our stand-alone tax practice in London."
Oliver Brettle, a member of White & Case's global Executive Committee, said: "Will is an important addition to strengthen our tax capability and support our transactional practices. Our full service capability in London is integral to our strategic objectives and tax is a vital part of that. His arrival follows the addition of tax partner Hagai Zaifman in New York in 2019 and the promotion to partner of Paris-based tax lawyer Estelle Philippi at the start of 2020."
