Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised Smithfield Foods, Inc. (Smithfield), one of the world's largest meat producers, on its acquisition of the Mecom Group meat processing company (Mecom) from Penta Investment Group.
The transaction is subject to the consent of the relevant regulatory authorities in Slovakia and Hungary.
With more than 1,400 employees and an annual turnover in excess of €130 million, Mecom operates two meat processing plants in Slovakia and two in Hungary. It exports up to 54 percent of its products, mostly to Hungary, the Czech Republic and Germany.
