Global law firm White & Case LLP has advised the Japan Bank for International Cooperation (JBIC) on its US$1 billion loan facilities for SMBC Aviation Capital Limited (SMBCAC).
The deal was signed on 29 November 2019.
As of October 2019, SMBCAC, jointly owned by Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing Co., Ltd. and Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, is the world's fifth largest aircraft leasing company by volume of owned and managed aircraft. By granting the loan facilities, JBIC will financially assist SMBCAC in further expanding its fleet volume to capture increasingly growing aircraft demand across the world, thereby contributing to maintaining and strengthening the international competitiveness of the Japanese aircraft leasing industry.
The White & Case team which advised on the transaction was led by partners Toshio Dokei (Tokyo) and Simon Collins (Tokyo/Hong Kong) with support from associate Shusuke Fukunaga (Tokyo).
