Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Project Development and Finance Practice and Global Energy Industry Group with the addition of Patrick Johnson as a partner in Houston.
"Patrick's broad experience in energy projects further enhances our renewables and energy transition capabilities in Houston, a key US market," said Eric Leicht, a member of the Firm's Executive Committee. "Patrick's addition deepens our roster at a critical juncture as investments in the industry continue to grow in the US and globally, fueled in part by the rapid adoption of AI driving demand for energy sources."
Johnson has a broad energy practice, with a particular focus on renewable energy and energy transition projects such as carbon capture, sequestration and utilization; hydrogen; and offshore and onshore wind generation facilities. His practice also focuses on upstream oil & gas; pipelines and other midstream facilities; downstream facilities; and merchant fossil-fuel electric generation facilities. He represents energy industry companies, private equity investors, alternative lenders, and financial institutions in transactions that include acquisitions and divestitures of assets and companies, joint venture arrangements, structured finance, project development and project finance.
Johnson's experience in upstream oil & gas and other traditional energy assets includes serving as in-house counsel to ExxonMobil, where he worked on upstream, midstream and infrastructure projects under development in jurisdictions across the globe. Johnson most recently served as the co-chair of the energy transition practice at an energy law firm in Houston.
"Deepening our energy practice bench and expanding our US energy transition and renewables capabilities is a key part of our strategy given the global trends in the energy industry," said Jay Cuclis, White & Case's Houston Office Executive Partner and Co-Head of the Firm's Energy Industry Group. "We are pleased to welcome Patrick, who brings a diverse skillset and experience across the global energy market and is renowned for the high caliber of his work in the industry. We continue to see a significant uptick in traditional energy projects and energy transition transactions in the market. Patrick's addition, following the recent additions of Monica Hwang and Peter Berg in Houston and Nadav Klugman in Chicago, will further strengthen our full-service energy platform to meet this demand."
