Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Madrid office with the addition of two Global Mergers & Acquisitions partners, Ignacio Paz and Pablo Garcia-Nieto.
"Our Madrid office works closely with our offices globally on landmark M&A transactions for large Spanish-listed corporates and international investment banks and funds. Despite the current economic challenges we see client demand for this advice continuing, particularly in the non-cyclical infrastructure and energy sectors where clients are looking to invest," said White & Case partner John Reiss, head of the Firm's Global Mergers & Acquisitions Practice. "Ignacio and Pablo's M&A and infrastructure experience therefore makes them important additions to expand our global M&A practice and to build on our highly regarded EMEA infrastructure M&A offering which continues to go from strength-to-strength."
Ignacio advises infrastructure funds, major corporations, banks and governmental entities on both domestic and cross-border transactions in the infrastructure, energy and natural resources sectors. He has experience on acquisitions and disposals, projects, public private partnerships and disputes advising in a wide range of sectors including infrastructure, distribution networks, power, renewables, water and waste and mining. Ignacio joins White & Case from Herbert Smith Freehills, where he was a partner and head of the energy and infrastructure practices in Spain.
Pablo advises private equity funds, infrastructure funds and other financial buyers on all types of leveraged M&A including private acquisitions, carve-outs, consortium deals, portfolio assistance, distressed acquisitions and disposals. He has particular experience advising on deals in the infrastructure and telecoms sector. Pablo joins White & Case from Herbert Smith Freehills, where he was a partner and head of corporate and private equity in Spain.
"Ignacio and Pablo have solid track records and strong personal brands and reputations in the Spanish market," said White & Case partner Nathalie Negre-Eveillard, Regional Section Head EMEA M&A/Corporate 1. "Their addition to White & Case will be of huge benefit to our clients who are seeking high quality and experienced external advisers with industry knowledge to guide them through their European and global transactions."
Partner Oliver Brettle, a member of White & Case's global Executive Committee, said: "As a result of continued client demand and guided by Office Executive Partner Juan Manuel de Remedios we are investing in our Madrid office strategically and carefully. The additions in 2022 of M&A partner Javier Monzon from Freshfields, debt finance partner Jaime Rossi from Herbert Smith Freehills and commercial litigation partner Francisco Malaga from Linklaters, as well as the promotion to partner of M&A lawyer Carlos Daroca at the start of 2023 are all part of this investment in Madrid. Now, the arrival of Ignacio and Pablo provides further depth and breadth of expertise to our Madrid and EMEA capabilities."
