Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Capital Markets Practice and Africa practice with the addition of Anthony Colegrave as a partner in London.

"Our EMEA capital markets team continues to experience strong demand from our financial institution clients for highly complex derivatives and structured finance work," said White & Case partner John Vetterli, head of the Firm's Global Capital Markets Practice. "Our addition of Anthony, who is a versatile transactional lawyer with a strong track record in the UK and South African markets, demonstrates our determination to continue expanding our role on these important international deals."

Colegrave is a finance lawyer with considerable experience in London and Johannesburg who is focused on derivatives, hedging and securities lending and financial regulation. His broad practice is based on his dual qualification in England and Wales and South Africa, advising major international banks and other financial institutions on both English and South African law governed derivatives transactions, primarily equity derivatives and hedging solutions, as well as on South African financial regulatory matters. Colegrave joins White & Case from Allen & Overy, where he was counsel, and brings more than 15 years of experience.

"Anthony is an exciting addition to our market-leading derivatives and structured finance team in London. He has naturally complementary client relationships and a strong track record advising on large, cross-border and multijurisdictional matters from both a derivatives and financial regulatory perspective," said White & Case partner Laura Sizemore, Regional Section Head, EMEA Capital Markets. "His skills and experience will benefit our clients and support the ongoing growth of the derivatives and structured products side of our capital markets practice in EMEA."

White & Case partner Oliver Brettle, a London-based member of the Firm's global Executive Committee, said: "Anthony is joining our market leading global derivatives practice led by London-based partner Ingrid York, and his arrival continues a very strong period for lateral partner additions to our London office. He expands our capital markets capabilities in EMEA and underlines the important relationship between London and our strategically important Johannesburg office, reuniting and working particularly closely with his former Allen & Overy colleagues Lionel Shawe, Sibusiso Zungu and Lindani Mthembu who recently joined White & Case as partners in Johannesburg."

During 2021 and 2022 to date, White & Case has added the following lateral partners in London:

  • M&A partner David Lewis from Clifford Chance.
  • Private equity partners Ross Allardice and Tony Brown from Dechert.
  • Funds and investment management partner Robert Nield from Sidley Austin.
  • Capital markets partner Evgeny Scirtò Ostrovskiy from Kirkland & Ellis.
