Global law firm White & Case LLP has expanded its Global Real Estate Industry Group and Global Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) Practice with the addition of Alicia Albury as a partner in Sydney.

"Energy transition and infrastructure transactions, greenfield developments and M&A and restructuring transactions are all expected to continue at pace in the Australian market and real estate expertise is essential for these deals," said White & Case partner Eugene Leone, Co-Head of the Firm's Global Real Estate Industry Group. "In addition, the global surge in data center M&A deals, driven by private equity investment, is expected to continue through 2024 and beyond, with Australia and the Asia-Pacific a key market for major investors. The addition of Alicia will help grow our real estate team in Australia and Asia-Pacific to drive forward and support our clients on these transactions."

Alicia advises on a wide range of real estate transactions, including property-related restructuring, turnaround and insolvency matters and energy and resources land tenure issues. She regularly advises developers, owners and investors on industrial, commercial and major infrastructure and renewable energy projects. Alicia brings more than 25 years of experience and joins White & Case from Maddocks, where she was a partner and led the Sydney real estate team.

"Alicia is a leading real estate partner in the Australian market and brings with her broad experience across a wide range of real estate transactions and assets that will benefit our clients," said Kate Perumal, White & Case Office Executive Partner in Sydney. "Working closely with our project development and finance, M&A and financial restructuring and insolvency practices in Australia, as well as our Melbourne-based real estate team, Alicia will be an integral part of our deal offering."

White & Case partner and Vice Chair Oliver Brettle said: "Alicia's strong synergies with a number of our global transactional practices and experience in renewable energy transactions make her an important strategic addition to our Australia practice. Looking more widely, we are seeing historic levels of Japanese inbound investment into Australian real estate and Alicia will work closely with recent funds and real estate lateral partner Eriko Sakata, who joined the Firm in May from Linklaters. Additionally, with the recent addition of real estate M&A partner John Cahill in New York and Hong Kong from Paul Hastings, there is increased opportunity to support clients on real estate M&A inflows into the Australian market from the US."
