Trump’s pause on FCPA enforcement triggers doubts and disappointment in Latin America

In Law.com International, Joel Cohen, Chair of the Global White Collar Practice, commented on the pause on enforcement of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act, which has spurred disappointment and doubts across Latin America.

During the pause, Trump has instructed Attorney General Pam Bondi to refrain from opening new cases, to evaluate existing FCPA investigations and to provide updated guidelines for future enforcement. After the review, enforcement may resume that more closely aligns with the administration's objectives.

"They're saying corruption is going to matter, but in a different, more overtly US-centric view of what they think is in the best interest of the country," said Cohen.
