In Inside US Trade, White & Case International Trade partner David Lim commented on the regulatory stage for export control enforcement under the US Department of Commerce's Bureau of Industry and Security in light of the transition to a new administration.
"I certainly expect this to be an administration that continues to build on the use of a variety of economic policy measures to advance economic security and national security," said Lim. He added that export controls have "taken a life of their own," and it would be difficult to put them "back in the box."
Lim also noted that BIS "has just spent the last four years aggressively amending the [Export Administration Regulations] and bringing export controls to the front of the spotlight in a way it hasn't been for a long time."
