Douglas Landy, partner at White & Case, on banking charters, crypto and CBDCs
1 min read
In a new episode of the "Wharton Fintech" podcast, co-head of White & Case's Financial Institutions Industry Group and head of the US Financial Services Regulatory Interest Group, Douglas Landy is interviewed by Anirudh Singh about the neo-bank decision-making process when applying for a banking charter, regulations surrounding bank engagement in crypto activities, the evolution of central bank digital currencies and other crypto matters.
Drawing on his experience in the regulatory and fintech space, Landy said, "There is a big debate going on right now. Is it better to have fintechs inside the tent? In other words, have them regulated like banks, regardless of where on that scale they are? Or is it better to keep them out of the tent because they bring different risks? And there's a real debate going on in Washington about which is the proper way to view that industry, and there's no real right answer to it."
