We represent our clients in proceedings for the recognition, annulment or vacatur of arbitral awards in jurisdictions around the world and have vast experience with enforcement proceedings under the New York Convention on the Recognition and Enforcement of Arbitral Awards and the ICSID Convention.
We have specialized expertise in matters involving States, State-owned entities and international organizations. We leverage our decades of experience managing disputes involving sovereign immunities, sovereign debt and financing structures to manage the specialized legal regime that applies when sovereign entities are involved.

Experience
Ioan Micula, European Food, et al.
Representing Ioan Micula et al. in multijurisdictional actions to enforce an ICSID award of more than US$240 million against Romania. We obtained multiple landmark decisions involving the intersection between EU law and investor-state arbitration leading to payments in favor of our client.
Russian Federation
Representing the Russian Federation in its defense against the enforcement of arbitral awards issued by a Permanent Court of Arbitration tribunal worth US$50 billion, and coordinating the multijurisdictional strategy with the state's legal team, including on actions to set aside the awards. This is currently the highest-value dispute in litigation in the world.
Saudi Aramco
Representing Saudi Aramco in its defense against actions brought in US courts to enforce an award purportedly issued by the International Arbitration Center in Cairo for US$18 billion.
TECO Guatemala Holdings
Representing TECO Guatemala Holdings in an action to enforce an ICSID award obtained against Guatemala. Our enforcement strategy led to the full payment of amounts owed to our client.
Republic of Uzbekistan
Representing the Republic of Uzbekistan in enforcement proceedings related to a US$1.3 billion dispute before the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia, as well as enforcement proceedings before the High Court in London, settling the outstanding US$9 million award on terms favorable to Uzbekistan.
PT Ventures
Representing PT Ventures in obtaining recognition of a US$750 million ICC award before the courts in the BVI and later securing another victory when the French courts rejected an effort to annul the ICC award.
Çukurova
Representing Çukurova in a dispute with Alfa Group concerning the ownership of a controlling shareholding in Turkcell Iletisim A.S., securing a decision in Cukurova's favor and advising on proceedings between Çukurova and Sonera in the British Virgin Islands, the Netherlands and Curacao in relation to the enforcement of a US $1 billion arbitration award.
Syndicate of Chinese Banks
Representing a syndicate of Chinese banks in respect of litigation proceedings and the restructuring of a US$925 million facility advanced to Reliance Communications Limited (RCom). After obtaining a US$700 million summary judgment against RComs owner, White & Case is continuing to advise on the enforcement of the judgment against the owner’s assets worldwide.
Cruz City 1 Mauritius Holdings
Representing Cruz City 1 Mauritius Holdings in a dispute with an Indian real-estate developer concerning a large commercial real-estate project in Mumbai. After obtaining three arbitral awards for approximately US$300 million, White & Case undertook multi-jurisdictional enforcement action on behalf of our client.
