White & Case was delighted to participate in the London Blockchain Foundation and Forte Market's Smart Contract Hackathon in December, in both a speaking and judging capacity.
The Hackathon was a collaboration between law firms, private sector businesses, technology and service providers, consultancies and universities, with the aim of identifying lawyers, engineers and process designers of the future.
Participating teams chose one of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals to aid, and presented solutions for their project.
Daniel Turgel, Corporate M&A Partner and one of the judges on the panel, said: "Smart contracts are becoming increasingly relevant to our business and the Hackathon was a great platform for the participants to develop some innovative applications and for us to support some fantastic teams with their final pitches. White & Case was thrilled to be involved."
Participants of the Hackathon also enjoyed listening to White & Case's presentation on Blockchain and Smart Contracts in the mining industry, using paperless trade in the mining and metals supply chain as a case study which was led by Rebecca Campbell and Andrzej Omietanski.
Victoria Thompson, organiser of the Hackathon, said: "It was fantastic to see so many ground-breaking pitches from the participating teams. The Hackathon was a huge success and we hope to see some of the solutions being implemented in the real world. We appreciate White & Case's support, their talks were really well received and inspiring for the students."
