White & Case wins “International Law Firm of the Year” at IFLR Africa Awards 2024

Global law firm White & Case LLP has been named "International Law Firm of the Year" and "Team of the Year: Capital Markets" at the IFLR Africa Awards 2024.
IFLR also recognized the following three transactions the Firm advised on as 2024 "Deals of the Year":

Deal of the Year: Capital markets: Gabon debt-for-nature conversion
White & Case advised the Republic of Gabon on its US$500 million blue bond and concurrent tender offer. The debt-for-nature conversion is the first transaction of its kind in Africa.

Deal of the Year: Domestic: Republic of South Africa Al-Ijarah sukuk
White & Case advised the National Treasury of the Republic of South Africa, Rand Merchant Bank and the Standard Bank of South Africa Limited on Project Tshepo, a listed Sovereign ZAR-denominated Al-Ijara Sukuk (a Shari’ah-compliant bond). Project Tshepo was the first listed Shari’ah-compliant bond in Africa.

Deal of the Year: Private equity: Bayobab–Africa50 East2West partnership
White & Case advised Africa50, an infrastructure investment platform, on a partnership with digital connectivity company Bayobab to develop Project East2West, a terrestrial fiber-optic cable network connecting the eastern shores of Africa to those on the west. The partnership will invest up to US$320 million, connecting ten African countries from 2023 to 2025. The network will offer substantial improvements in data traffic for internet service providers, mobile network operators and hyperscalers operating in these countries.
