Zachary Dickens
Biography
Overview
Zach is a partner in White & Case's Miami office. He focuses his practice on complex and high-stakes commercial disputes in state and federal courts. Zach has extensive experience through every aspect of the litigation process, from pre-suit investigations all the way through jury trials and appeals. Zach also has expertise in cross-border disputes that require collaboration across jurisdictions, offices, and areas of law.
As a trial lawyer and a former appellate clerk, Zach provides invaluable advice to his clients on how to navigate and win in the trial courts while also ensuring potential appellate issues are properly preserved. And he takes great pride in protecting his client's trial victories on appeal. For example, Zach recently helped two foreign clients obtain a dismissal order in a case involving a $250 million Ponzi scheme. Zach then represented those clients on appeal, where Florida's Third District Court of Appeal and the Florida Supreme Court upheld the dismissal order. Zach secured an eight-figure jury verdict on behalf of a developer and won a pre- and post-trial appeal in that case. He has successfully defended multiple law firms in professional liability lawsuits and won those appeals. Even when hired only for the appeal, Zach has secured appellate victories for several clients. Recently, he secured the reversal of multiple class certification orders and helped an insurance client secure an appellate affirmance of a trial court victory in a COVID-19 insurance dispute.
Zach's representative trial experience includes a broad range of domestic and international clients that span various industries, including financial institutions, insurance companies, private equity firms, healthcare companies, fintech companies, law firms, real estate developers, drug manufacturers, power companies, professional associations, government entities, and individual clients. His trial work includes, among others, contract and insurance disputes, professional liability claims, fraud and negligence claims, and antitrust matters. Zach's appellate experience is similarly diverse. He has represented clients in appeals involving contract disputes, class certification, statutory interpretation, and matters of great public importance, such as bond validations, ballot initiatives, and redistricting.
Zach's pro bono experience includes first-chair trial experience leading a team of lawyers in a civil rights case. He has also represented victims of gun violence and domestic abuse as well as a mother seeking the return of her child under the Hague convention.
Before joining the Firm, Zach clerked for the Honorable Justice R. Fred Lewis of the Florida Supreme Court.
